Phoenix Reflections
I was just in Phoenix, Arizona to speak to a room of over 160 entrepreneurs, CEOs and senior executives. It was an amazing time, sharing with them what I’ve learned from incredible leaders around the world, and answering questions about it takes to grow and thrive as a leader. Over a great dinner the night before, with John Cosgrove and Rick Johnson of Arizona Growth Advisors – who I’ve known for about a decade and who brought me down to speak - we talked about the work we are doing. The conversation was passionate and animated as we talked about the successes and challenges of the men and women we’ve had a chance to coach, mentor and advise – the crazy situations we’ve had to navigate and how we all emerged stronger, on the other side. I’m sure we were creating a scene – just like proud parents googling over the accomplishments of their young
children as they learn to walk and talk. It was also a reminder of how grateful and fortunate I am to do this work on the planet. It’s absolutely what I’m meant to do with my life because it doesn’t feel like work, when I’m in a room with amazing people or speaking to a group of 200 or 2000. I feel like a kid at the playground. Even though most of us are grateful for our great experiences in life, we can often be too busy to take the time to stop and reflect. In that moment it hit me, between my eyes, that I’ve been living my dream for a long time and am still always wanting to learn and get better. It felt frickin’ awesome! And it came with thanks for all of the great mentors, teachers, coaches and clients I’ve had a chance to work with over the past 25 years. Some of them have been all those things to me.
