Your WORK

Inspiration is everywhere

On Friday, we held a great forum for CEOs we work with, to share both the challenges we’re facing and the great things that are happening. I have been blown away by the speed of people’s innovations and pivots.

The theme of the call was ‘Don’t waste a good crisis’. The number of inspiring stories about people doing the right things for their people, and some of the great growth spurts because of the type of business they are in, was awesome.

I’ll share a story with you of a CEO in a retail business still operating, who asks his employees, every day, what they need to feel safe. And every day, they are implementing their ideas and creating new policies: like a security guard at the door to monitor how many people come in, putting systems in place so that employees never touch products, self-bagging for customers and taping lines to indicate safe distances in lineups.

His staff are showing initiative and feel empowered to share the load – an acknowledgement that the responsibility doesn’t just fall on the shoulders of the leaders. No-one has all the answers, but we can figure out what we need to, together.

Got a story about what you are doing in your business? Please tell us so that we can share with others in our community.
Your SELF

A Resilience Ritual Reminder

It’s been pretty intense over the past 10 days and most of us are more stressed and may not be sleeping well. It’s time to get outside (appropriately), and to make the time to take care of your mind, body and spirit. For me, that includes writing every day, exercising and going for a drive or motorcycle ride.

Because we are spending more time indoors, it’s more important to stick to your routines. You simply need to adjust how you do your activities. If you’re used to going to the gym or the pool at a certain time, keep that appointment and do something else.

There are a ton of online resources, like Yoga by Tim on YouTube. This guy is amazing.

Send us a note to share your new habits for mind, body and soul.
Your LIFE

The importance of social connection in a world of social distancing.

We’re all finding creative ways to stay connected, and I’m even visiting my parents through their living room window. Yesterday, my family took it to a new level when we threw a surprise birthday party for my sister, who is quarantined after being out of the country. She wasn’t expecting us all to show up in our cars, at her house, to throw a front-yard surprise party. I tossed her a bouquet of flowers, like a bride at a wedding; and placed her cake on the front steps as we sang Happy Birthday – all maintaining the socially appropriate distance.

It was so much fun and helped us all to feel better. As a family, we’ve decided to come together, virtually, to continue to each other’s company.

Remember, the tribe heals and we are tribal in nature. Whether it’s Facetime or Zoom – there’s more than one way to hang out.

This guy in lockdown, in Cypress, using a drone to walk his dog made me laugh…
